If you are flying with Air Asia then you have to go through arrival & departure processes. Arrivals in KL are very quick & easy. In November we found that the departures often open early (don't believe the signs - just ask).

If you have a few hours between flights you could try to check into &/or just stroll over to the Tune Hotel. Can get a room for a few hours (can't book in advance) or just hang out in one of the 2 reasonable aircon restaurants there - about an easy 10 min walk or a 2 Ringit bus fare.

If you have to overnight then book the LCCT Tune well in advance with aircon. You can stroll over with your bags more than 2 hours in advance & check in then go back to your (small) aircon room for a while before going to the departure lounge.

BTW duty free is MUCH cheaper in KL than in Oz - just allow plenty of time as the DF there is really busy.
