Bridges

We are having a coffee, wondering where we should have dinner, as we have visited our usual favourite eating haunts in Ubud. (Have been visiting and staying in Ubud for 20 years.) Ibu suggests looking up Trip Advisor and #2 recommended restaurant is 'Bridges'. Surely not; it's nothing more than a warung!! Read some reviews on T.A. and decided to give it ago. We were shown our white table and white chair with white table cloth to match the white paint work and while we were sitting down, 2 glasses of chilled water were poured. Everyday standard fare in North America, common in Aus, rarer than hen's teeth in Bali. My immediate reaction was this place is class and it sure is and with a capital 'C' Brilliant food, good wine list and service. (The menu is on line) The French Canadian owner spends time at each table, doing what an owner should do I.E. making sure that his customers are happy. When he visited our table, I apologised for not visiting his establishment on previous visits to Ubud. He explained that they had only bought the business in December 2010. It was reassuring that we had not been missing out all these years and another plus was, there was not a pair of footy shorts or Bintang singlet to be seen, but there were plenty of Australians who were dressed as you would, visiting similar places back in Australia and young ladies wearing their newly purchased evening attire. The 2 of us had a main course, shared a dessert, a glass (150ml)[AUD$10 each thanks to Jakarta] of Chillean wine each, coffee. Rp 680,000+ call it AUD$70. Brilliant.
