As for "This sort of misinformation no doubt led many into believing all was well", what proof do you have? I reckon you would have no way of knowing whether MANY people believed misinformation, all you can guess is that quite a few people went ahead and took the risk on a "it couldn't happen to me" sort of approach. It wouldn't have mattered that you or anyone else cautioned them they would have taken the risk anyway (how many still went to Bali after the bombings or after rabies outbreaks etc etc when they were warned not to?).
Lots took the risk and got away with it. Some got caught. CAVEAT EMPTOR!
