AA follows the Ryanair model, where everything has an additional charge.

Yesterday, I almost booked a one way flight to KL to Sydney. The price was $176, calculated as follows:

Promo fare $149
15 kg checked in luggage $17
1 meal + small bottle of water $5
Fee for using a credit card $5
TOTAL $176

If you are buying a return trip, all the above charges are doubled, except the fare, which is usually less on the Bali to Australia leg as Australia includes taxes in the outbound fares. The Indonesian Government collects taxes directtly from passengers as the arrive and leave Indonesia ($US25 Visa On Arrival + Rp 150,000 Departure Tax).

On this flight, I did not buy an allocated seat, insurance, comfort pack or a bus ride to the centre of KL. All these items would have been charged on top of the $176.
