Friends "bought" a place. After a year or so they couldn't wait to get rid of it. So many hassles with staff, the local "authorities" always asking for $, being tied to the place, going elsewhere & coming back to big expenses etc etc etc.

Now they just rent a villa or hotel where ever they happen to be & travel the world without the hassles of "owning" a place. Not stuck in a place during the wet. No problems dealing with the local beaurocracy - just renting a room at a hotel or renting a house/villa for the time they choose to be there & then being free to go elsewhere for a while.

Seems good to me.
