Last Nobember I purchased a simpatti sim and it works like this
You buy a card for 5000rp =$5.50.
Put credit on for telephone calls suggest 150,000 = $15.00 can go less but it's up to you. Remember the cheap dialing codes for telephone/sms back to AUST.
Add internet access another 150,000 gives unlimited access for 2 weeks.
You will read elsewhere that the original 5000 gives you calls and internet free but 2gb internet and X amount of calls/sms is too cheap. Then there is the story you get it free after your original top-up and that is whet I believe it is.
Ask and try.
I got REASONABLE reception all over Kuta and down to Ulawatu, Sanur and Denpasar. Speed was a bit slow but get out in the open and it sped up. Too many buildings. Going Tuesday and back at end of FEB if you want to use my card up til 20/4/12.
