back I had a hernia which needed repair. Southern Cross wanted me to have it at BIMC but I wanted a specialist hernia surgeon graduated from a good medical school and with proper post graduate letters after his name. The price quoted was USD6000.00 and the surgeon didn't fill me with confidence.
Southern Cross got another quote from Singapore at SD13000.00.
To settle the arguement I jumped on a plane back to good old Godzone and had the procedure done in day surgery in a private hospital by a guy who could do hernias in his sleep for NZD2800.00. His procedure was different to that described in Bali. Stitches were internal and the gause mat the Bali surgeon was going to insert was not required.Even after Southern Cross paid my return fare I saved them a couple of thousand dollars.
Not sure why it's so expensive in Bali as the surgeons and nurses would earn a hell of a lot less.
