I love this area, CD is great as a base for exploring the East of Bali. Depending on your style, you may like to investigate Candi Beach Cottages or Pondok Bambu. Nearby is the wonderful Village of Tenganan where the Bali Aga people continue their traditional Village life. Tirta Ganga is a good half day trip, this water palace is very nice. Nearby is a secret (no so much of a secret anymore) beach, white sand and warungs on the beach. I also like to take a trip to Amed when I'm in this area. Klungkung which is en-route to CD is interesting, the Justice Buildings, Kerta Gosa, are wonderful to see on your way to CD. Vincent's is good I usually eat at a great little warung near Candi Beach Cottages, Dwi Utama, however the last time I was there it was close, so I went to the place on the beach, very good.
