...for a day tripper may seem to be not much of a destination.
After the markets, a bit of lunch and maybe the monkey forest there would seem to be not much else to do for your average tourist.
But like anywhere, you have to scratch below the surface sometimes for a better look.

Ubud is widely regarded as the centre for art and culture in Bali. There are many art galleries and museums for those that are interested. But even just walking the streets is a different feel with it's many small shops, cafes and spas. I guess it's the whole feel of Ubud that's the attraction rather than anything specific.

For me, the best part about Ubud is later in the day when the last tourist bus has left and I'm enjoying a quiet tipple on my balcony overlooking some ricefield with the sun slowly setting wondering which one of Ubud's fantastic restaurants am I going to tonight.

To be completely honest, I don't usually see too many mums and dads with four kids in tow in Ubud much and if I had four kids myself, I'd probably stay down south and just go to Waterbom Park.
