Hi Tina, we had to leave our hotel at PR a bit before 5 pm last year as they close a lot of the roads off for the parades. Also the drivers want to get back to their families as well . The airport was so packed it took us over 1 1/2hrs just to check in , I have never seen the airport like that before. I would not risk trying to leave later as so many people couldn't get transport to or from the airport. Be prepared for a long wait & stay patient . We were flying Jetstar to Sydney .
