When we went to Bali last year my iPhone was constantly roaming and connecting, even though I wasnt intentionally connecting to the internet. I received a huge bill from Telstra, bbut fortunately had it credited back.
There is a solution....
You can turn off your data/internet usage, but still receive/make calls and sms. Go into
Settings, then
General, then
Network, then
select off for Enable 3G, Cellular data etc all to OFF.
You can also connect to airplane mode.
Use your iPhone ONLY when in free wifi places, BUT DONT FORGET to switch off the internet when you leave.
