Check out Whirlpool forum - people post this sort of question and lots of geeks who care about laptops vs tablets (rather than trips to Bali) to answer you.
As a personal choice, I have a reasonably spec'd Asus Netbook, which has a decent processor, Windows 7 etc. so is not slow like older netbooks. I used Whirlpool to figure out exactly what I wanted then searched around on the net for the best price. Then Harvey Normal had a 2 day special where it was literally half price and I swooped in and bought it. Claimed the GST on the way out to Bali. (the netbook & a cover cost $301 so just scrapped in). I couldn't be happier, apart from being able to blog, email, surf the net, do some work if I need to, I also can upload photos to clear my memory cards on my camera.
Have taken it all around Indonesia, Thailand and Laos now. Best $300 I spent.
