Last time there was an outbreak of legionaires Disease I done some checking as my wife got Legionaires in Bali July 2009 and ended up in a coma for 17 days.
As in my wife's case the common denominator was that cafe with the water sprays. All persons in that outbreak (about 8 in Australia) at one stage had either eaten at the cafe walked under the sprays several times. There was a mention of a hotel not far away may have been the cause but it was not common to all effected.
It has not deterred us we still go to Bali and counting down to 12 days at the moment. We do not walk under the sprays are eat there any more. We can't rink my wife's health. We loved the food there but the risk is not worth it.
The doctor who Diagnosed my wife in Sir Charles Gardiner hospital in Perth was indonesian. He had seen it before and it was he who ordered the specific tests for Legionaires. One of the few questions to us was "when you were in Bali did you stand under any water sprays to get cool" Why would he ask that question ?????
