have a look first at holiday planet before doing the air and hotel they can work out cheaper, also call your agent to see what deals they may have. Good hotel booking sites are hoteltravel and agoda but there are many others. When you choose hotels have a look at trip advisor and reads the worst and the best reviews.
Puri Santrian and Sanur Beach hotel are good hotels and facilities in that area are greatly improved and still it is only a short taxi to the central area. My favourite now is probably the Segara or the Griya Santrian in the central area for larger hotels.
The Griya which is next door to where we stay was renovated a few years ago and has a beautiful pool at the beach front and fantastic eating area restaurant on the beach front. The new rooms are lovely and the older style rooms at the back also have their own pool.
The Segara is looking upmarket but the pool shade in the new beach front pool area does not have a lot of shade but is quite elegant. The grounds are nice and the rooms look great.
Friends stayed at the Sanur Beach hotel at Christmas and they were delighted with the hotel but said they would have liked to be more central. The Puri close to Sanur Beach Hotel looks very impressive these days from the beach front and has those floating cabanas in the water. Not stayed at Puri for a number of years but the standard rooms were quite small and are still the standard rooms:) I have not seen the club areas but there was a JBR about them a while ago.
Good luck
