I mean this in the nicest way - when you ask how does it "inconvenience tourists" it will incovenience you massively if you don't have respect for the culture and appreciate that this is a very important day in the balinese calendar.
You can pretty much guarantee that things will shut down the day before and for at least the day after.
We love being in bali for Nyepi day and the serenity of the island during this time as well as the culture through celebrations etc.
Go with an open mind of why they celebrate this day and you will also appreciate it.
As I mentioned I don't mean to be rude or ignorant when I refer to "how this will inconvenience tourists" but I feel if tourist start to respect the culture of the Balinese it will continue to shine and show tourists why we all love Bali so much :)
