I think the returnable/reusable baskets with a deposit are a good idea, but one that will probably never take off in a country like Indonesia. Shops and markets are too relient on plastic bags, and the extra cost for biodegradable ones will mean that they probably won't take off either. It is up to us as tourists to bring over those stupid eco-friendly woolies bags and use them.

But really I think it will take a lot more than this to solve the rubbish solution in Bali/Indonesia. Most of the litter in the streets isn't from tourists, most of the trash is from the locals themselves.
