I think the cottages you are referring to are at the Melasti Beach Resort,on Padma Utara, Legian. The bungalows are at Kuta. Have never stayed at the Kuta Bungalows (have always heard negative reports on them) so can't comment on the rooms.
I've stayed at the cottages at MBR a few times...for what you pay they are fine, I'm staying in them again this year. Great Location,on the beach and can walk to restaurants,bars,shopping,Bintang supermarket etc etc
