After staying out at the absolute hell hole villa we did at Canggu about 1 1/2 year ago- we now have seriously taken on board our dear friend's Les advice (an brilliant ex Adelaide travel agent) & we will always make sure a villa is officially registered before we stay there.OUR FA Ken is 100% correct re unregistered villas being unpredictable & a big risk to stay at.At the time we booked the hell hole it was only on VRBO & had no reviews & silly me I took a gamble by not checking that it was regsitered,Sadly I didn't think to get close local friends to check it out because we booked at the last minute.When we got home we did a negative review on VRBO which disappeared but since then the American owner has what could only possibly be friends or family do positive posts.There are still the very misleading photos of furniture that the previous manager supposedly took over 2 years ago & inclusions listed such as a covered carport,telephone & wheelchair accessible (it's 2 storey with many steps )<LOL> I expect nothing has changed because the owner does not spend money on the place & has an excuse for everything that goes wrong or is missing! These days I only believe BTF re Bali reviews because I have known many of the people here for a long time & trust them & a number I keep in with regular contact via other channels. I consider we are all very lucky that BTF exists & we post honest reviews of accomodation -good & bad.Thanks Ken & the rest of your team for allowing us all to be here.
