It sounds to me like a combo of things: they were dishonest and your expectations were unrealistic (there are nice places to stay in Bali for $150 per night but they all involve some sort of compromise and are defintely not five-star villas).
What I think is particularly appalling is that the description of the layout did not reveal that one of the bedrooms was effectively a passage-way. That on its own is grounds for a very poor review in my opinion.
