Although it is available in bottles not everyone can afford it, there is still poverty in Bali .Other fuels such as coconut husks, wood or "minyak tanah" are used instead of "elpiji"
You need to get out of Kuta sometime fella and have a look around, you may learn a bit about Indonesia.
If you did travel around Bali as much as you say you do I'm sure you would have come across "minyak tanah" by now and know what Freogirl was referring to.
