is as you say not considered rude. They are very put off when
we use our left (unclean) hand to eat or to hand them something and as for people who pull out a handkerchief and blow their nose in it then put it back in their pocket, well that is totally disgusting to them. "What!!! They are putting that in their pocket and taking it home with them???". Let's not get started on toilet hygiene where we often think that the wet toilets are just aweful but they think. "OMG these people don't use water to clean themselves. Yeuk.". There is actually an insult in Cantonese which when translated means something like "Dung smelling foriegners" because of this habit of ours.

Therefore next time you feel like a doing a bit of housekeeping with you left pinky, then going to the loo and throwing a bit of water around feel free. Also don't be too judgemental if you find a toilet roll on the warung table but don't find one in the loo.

Different fields for different grasshoppes.
