are hollow core needles which can contain blood in an airtight environment. The needles used by tattooist are more like pins and blood can only attach to the needle but not be contained. So, a virus like HIV which can only last a few minutes once exposed to air, unlike hepatitis which can last up to two weeks, would have to be injected (which a tattooist's needle is unable to do) into another person's bloodstream in a very short timeframe. The amount required would have to be at least one ml of highly contaminated blood for transmission to occur.
For all those doubters out there; I do know what I am talking about and, if someone has been infected via a tattooing, the guidelines and other reference materials referring to the HIV virus would have to be completely overthrown. I havent seen the health dept suggesting this.
