My first trip to Bali was in September 1981 with 3 other nursing student friends aged around 19 years. Stayed at the Ramayana, thought it was flash back then. Back then there was no Matahari's or
Kuta Square. The road still had open drains either side and the beach markets were nothing but corrigated sheds all put together leading to the beach. Those were the days we could swap jeans for sarongs with the locals.
How times have changed, hey....................? You will notice a huge change yourself. Be prepared for the traffic and noise.

Anyway, I remember going to a primitive bar located over the road from the hotel up a bit 5 out of 7 nites. It was usually frequented by airline staff on layover. Called ? Bamboo Indah. Barman was "Johnny" who entertained us all by lighting up spirits on the bar etc.
There was no loud music only someone with a guitar and a singsong. Does anyone know of this place?
The only disco we went to was an open air compound like thing with smashed glass bits cemented on top of the walls along Legian Road near the very end of the sealed section..............it was near the Bali Oberoi. No taxis either, you walked or got into a bemo!!!
Bring back the Bemo!!!!!

Ahh..........memories! Without them we'd have nothing to write about. Going again in mid Feb and can't wait...............my only regret is it won't be long enough.

Happy travels mate!!!!
