Last year and the year before after staying a few times at the Sanur Beach Hotel. The hotel has a number of things going for it - it is superbly laid out in blocks of 4 to 6 rooms that are angled in such a way that you don't look across into other rooms so that despite full occupancy in July you had a sense of privacy and didn't get the feeling you were in a huge resort. The southern end of Sanur is really buzzy now compared to days of yore - lots of night spots but not seedy like Kuta. On the beach there are lots of cheap and cheerful options to eat. Turn right when you get to the beach - Cafe Treo is our favourite (check it out on tripadvisor)
There is a free shuttle to Hardy's to stock up on supplies. Gardens are beautiful and well maintained - can't understand previous post.
The deluxe rooms are worth the extra money but that said the standard rooms are clean with excellent facilities and air-con. Old bathrooms seem to be the thing most people complain about but my opinion is that if they are clean and work properly it doesn't matter that the tiles are old.
Hope this helps.
