We had never stayed in Candi Dasa also but a couple of trips back we drove from Kuta to CD and was surprised what a nice drive it was most of the way now dual carriage way and stayed at sea breeze check trip advisor for reviews. Same day carried on through CD to Ampula sorry about spelling but just after this town you will see best rice terrace in Bali . Next day done some snorkling of CD from out rigger canoe with motor, excellent water and fish. CD is much quiter than the west coast and has very nice cafes along the main street.
