Hi Wondering, Last year was the first time the "safety" aspect hit home to me. Not because of terrorist activity but because of the normal human criminal activity that you get in any busy touristy spot. We had two separate incidents where members of our party were attacked .. in both cases it was very late at night or early hours of the morning and they were walking into dark areas on their own.
You can expect Bali to be as safe as any other normal tourist destination and that means that if you keep your eyes open, your money safe and don't go walking on your own into dark areas late at night on your own you should be fine.
I think that terrorist activity can flare up at any time in any busy tourist spot in the world, you'd never go anywhere if you worried about it all the time.
