Do the sums. You currently get more Rupiah for the Oz dollar than for the US (AUD$1 + 9267Rp - USD$1 = 9065Rp). That's according to my computer's gadgets. We've always paid in the VOA in Oz dollars, and received change in Rupiah for the taxi. The amount you pay depends on the daily exchange rate.
