To answer your question, you walk out of the Airport doors and approx 10meters on the right is the taxi window -it is not like Autsralia where you hop in a taxi and then pay at the end- at the airport in Bali you pay at the counter and a driver will then walk you to their taxi which is parked in the airport. Usually just a short walk. Your friend can ask the driver if the car is a long way off (not usually the case) and the driver can get the car to them.
