Being that it takes 3 weeks to 3 months from exposure to showing positive test results, I'm still unsure how they can narrow it down to definitely being from getting the tattoo.
Just because unprotected sexual encounters weren't mentioned in the article, doesn't mean they didn't happen. People omit information - or outright lie. It could even be that the person (male or female is irrelevant) picked it up at home via unprotected sex and not even necessarily in Bali.
And again, if it was from a tattoo, I think the information regarding where the tattoo was done is extremely relevent. As I said from the start, I don't doubt it could be from a tattoo - IF they went somewhere with shonky practices. That doesn't mean that ALL tattoos received in Bali have the same risks. I don't doubt you could get HIV from getting a dodgy tattoo in Australia too.
