If you are travelling around Bali as opposed to just wandering around shopping etc, then whatever you do keep your valuables on you - I use a neck pouch. Do not ever leave anything of value in a bag that you might leave in your transport vehicle. If it's important, then keep it on you.
For general wandering around shopping I use a deep heavy duty cloth shoulder bag with velcro, zips & a long strap - very hard to get into. Not glam but in June my friend, who likes glam, had her purse containing all her cards etc lifted from her wide & shallow stunning bag - a huge hassle & I'll stick with my daggy but sensible bag with lots of pockets, velcro & zips.
