Just a brief report as most of the experiences we had are very similar to others.
We stayed at a couple of Villas in Seminyak, just on a gang off Jalan Drupadi, Serene Villas. Lovely villas, nice air cond rooms, good size, lovely outdoor bathrooms, pool was just okay, nothing flash but hey, on those hot days, all pools are good. Lovely staff, cannot speak highly enough about them.
We did the usual stuff, there were quite a few of us so we tended to do some different things some days but generally met up each evening to do dinner and drinks. Ate at a bunch of great places in Seminyak, Kuta and Legian, happy to provide feedback about them if anyone is interested. They included Zappas, Ultimo, Nirvana, Rumours, The Corner Bar in Legian, The Red Carpet, Blue Ocean and probably a dozen others.
People were still good (in general) and I found the taxi drivers had really improved in terms of attitude. I mean, most of them are usually good but now and then, I have experienced some horror heads so I figure they must have picked up their pace, looking for that extra tip (don't blame them) and consequently, it worked for me so I gave them good tips. Had clothing made by Miss Cintya, still good stuff (she isnt doing leather at the moment though) but she still doesnt manage to get womens trousers or shorts right, no biggie, her other stuff was good. Had a leather backpack made at a little shop on Drupadi, Minor Leather, did a good job, cost me about $80 I think, lined, extra zips, inside pocket etc. I bartered her down to half. Things still cost the same as last year, more or less, I have improved my bartering skills somewhat and got some bargains.
I thought that food and grog had increased significantly to previous years, or is that just my memory failing? Still cheap and good quality though.
Exchange rate was about 8900 at reputable places.
