I'm more worried about the noise pollution coming from the nasaly sounding "eeeww he's smoking" brigade.
It kinda sounds similar to " eeeww his testicle is hanging out of his shorts" mob.
They all seem to think it's a bad thing???
My dear old mother brought me up to be tolerant of other people but once we tolerate other peoples intolerance then we are doomed as a society.
I think she taught a good lesson there.
Part of the beauty of Bali is the freedom to do things that we normally cant do at home.
Things like: haggling prices when shopping
having a beer with breakfast lunch or dinner
waving down a random motorcyclist for transport
falling down open drains and not being able to sue anyone for it
having a beer with friends on the beach watching the sun set
enjoying a fulfilling cigarette after a sumptouis(?) meal
Of course the "entitled" will scream I'm entitled to fresh air, all the while they will ignore the traffic fumes, drain smells, body odour and the stench that emanates from most Bali resturant toilets. If they can ignore those smells then they can ignore the cigarette smell as well.
Personally I dont give a rats if someone at the next table lights up. Having been a smoker I have the understanding that it is a bona fide addiction. The only choice in it was lighting up the first one, not long after that it is no longer a choice for the smoker but one of addictive compulsion. Stick your nose into the airport smoking room and you will fully understand it is not a choice thing.
Being sneered at or being given pariah status is neither tolerant or helpful to the smoker.
I'm now off to the fridge to have some cheese with my whine.
Will you do the same??
