My GF lives out near the BIMC (hospital), so we bought from a small shop out near her house. Not much use to you i'm afraid.
However, use this knowledge of the actual true price when making your purchase.
There is a camera / phone shop near W Sports Bar / Simpang Inn that sells sim cards and credit. They had them marked up for 12,000rp which is fairly reasonable, and i bought additional credit there and asked them to set up the phone. Most internet cafes, or mini marts will sell these for similar prices. Its only really the small stall holders that will try to really whack the price up.
I used XL, but only because all the locals i know use the same sim so it makes it cheaper for them to contact me that way.
Previously i have used Simpati (telksomel) which i actually prefer so it is this carrier which i would recomend.
