on channel 7 last night and in the West this morning.
Relates to a card game scam (an oldie but a goodie) costing an elderly couple some $18,000.
Advice for inexperienced travellers to Bali, or for that matter anywhere else is:-
1) If someone invites you back to their house for a friendly game of snap, say no (If entrapped and you get out...do not return to Perth to get more money to take back......stay in Perth).
2) If anyone offers you a "genuine" Rolex for $10....it probably isn't a Rolex.
3) The uncle that your new driver wants to take you to see in his new shop probably isn't his uncle.
4) The digital camera that you won in the "just take a card....I am not selling anything" time share game is non existant.
5) The short cut that your taxi driver is taking to save you time and money....won't!
6) The gold coin bracelet that you have donated to be made into a bracelet isn't what you receive back.
7) The small package of smelly stuff that is offered on the street is NOT OK to buy as long as you smoke it in your room.
8) When the money changer asks to check the rupiah he just gave you, he is not really looking after your best interests.
I trust that these few tips will help people avoid being taken advantage of, and deprive the news media of further oportunity to paint Bali as a total den of villains (And Australian tourists as totally gullible and a bit slow)
P.S. I do concede that the people scammed are elderly.....the same age as I am in fact.
