I am in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods Industry and the margin that retailers make, and hence sell products for, on grocery lines in Indonesia is far less than in the West (and most nearby Asian countries)due to the fact that the local market has less disposable income. Whilst I obviously can't say this transfers in all cases I think it does in most.
Sure, Hong Kong it may be not in terms of sheer number of malls, but I think you will enjoy your shopping trip in Jakarta, especially to the centres I mentioned.
