The point isn't what happens here in Australia or what we think is right or wrong. The point is that the rules in Indonesia are what they are. If people want to buy 3.6g of pot and not go to prison for it, they shouldn't go to Indonesia to do it, no matter how old they are.
When you pass immigration, you agree to the law of the land, no matter what country you are in. This isn't a Bali newbie - he and his family had been before. He had to be aware of the law. He's old enough to have heard the name Schapelle before. He's old enough to be able to read the signs in the airport.
And I'll still argue that if he is "just a kid" then his parents need a good hard look at themselves for letting him wander the streets unsupervised.
Personally, I don't think a 14yo should be in an adults prison, but I also don't think a 14yo is mature enough and responsible enough to be alone in a foreign country either. But what I think doesn't matter. His parents apparently thought it was appropriate, and the law makers in Indonesia have also decided what they think is appropriate.
