really only if you have done the wrong thing (in most cases).
so many people on this board complain about the 'corrupt' police for pulling them over when riding bikes. if the tables were turned, and there were thousands of Asians driving in Australia with no licence, what would people want?
they would want them fined!
i have lived here for coming up to 4 years and have only paid a policeman ONCE. the reason was because i was driving without a licence when i first arrived. now that i have a licence and a car with all the correct paperwork, if i get pulled over, they check my documents and send me on my way.
one day, i ran a red light. it was not intentional - a car was doing a U Turn in front of me and i was already over the line. by the time i went through, the light had changed. plod pulled me over and i explained that the traffic light wasnt working (which is true). i smiled at him and pleaded my case, and he just said 'be careful next time - if you look at the light on the left, you will see its still working' and sent me off.
they arent ALL corrupt.
