painting from a picture

Hi

My friend has a picture of a geisha he would like painted on canvas.
I have been to Bali many times but have never bought a painting let alone have 1 paited from a picture, so I have no idea where to get this done or how much he should expect to pay? Could anyone help me with some tips about canvas paintings?
