Yes...it is possible that some people add an orphanage visit to their holidays just to go home and say "we visited an Orphanage while we were there!" and it then builds up an expectation with the kids that visitors mean gifts. Even if that is the case, the orphanage still receives much needed items be it food, or objects.
However if you read my previous post about taking items that are educational and in particular interactive, the whole event can be turned into something very positive and gratifying to both sides.
