There is a money changer in garlic lane next to ours restaurant, it looks like a little telephone booth and they have the best rate going and they will only touch your money when they give it to you and they ask you to count it before you go.We never got ripped off in two weeks we were there and it was recomended to us by other aussies.
If you use the ATM's you get charged fees by your bank and make sure you get your card back as it comes out after you get your money and takes a while to eject sometimes.
