Is there hope...or bite the bullet?

Finally convinced friends to travel to Bali with us next year. I managed to find them direct fairs with Garuda under $600 from Melb and so they booked them (May 22 - Jun 6). Now I need to find fares for us from Sydney for the same dates (or pretty close dates) but everything is much more expensive!

We've not had to match specific dates before, so are a bit new at this; how do people rate the chance of us getting a better price for those dates is we hold off?
