We've done this twice and both times was different.
First time we were checked right through and given our boarding passes in Melbourne for the Darwin - Bali so we just got off the domestic flight and went straight through to international.
In August this year we only had carry on and so again proceeded through to international, through security etc, only to be asked for our boarding passes!!!! Oooops!
We had to go downstairs and check in and go back upstairs. We didn't even think about the lack of boarding passes! I suppose we may have realized if we had to pick up luggage first!
Oh well live and learn!
