I have just returned from 10 days in Bali and Gili Trawangan, I stayed in Ramada at Legian Beach (don't recommend), Luce d'Alma in Gili (highly recommend if you are going there), and Maharta (Legian Beach). By far my favourite was Maharta and for the group that you are going with I would strongly recommend you look at this hotel, it's a boutique hotel with just 34 rooms, a lovely pool, amazing restaurant, it's right on the beach, out of the hustle and bustle of Kuta yet close enough if you want to go there. It's quiet, the service is incredible, the staff are so friendly, love to chat and make you feel special. Great cocktails, wonderful pool, great rooms, I cannot rate this hotel highly enough, they made my holiday perfect. There is also some nice little restaurants in the surrounding streets that you can walk to of a night.
