Once again, for Indonesian food, have to recommend Cafe Seafood Muslim in Jl Kediri - really good value (e.g. ordered cumi-cumi tempura (entree size), cah kangkung seafood, tahu and tempeh (small plate with both), nasi putih, mie goreng hotplate and ayam goreng kering plus juices and it cost 129,000 IDR). Their Sop Buntut is good, too. Had a yummy chicken panini at Kafe Batan Waru and also the quesadilla was good but bland.. added some sambal and sorted that out. Nice food there but a bit pricey, I thought. Very nice Fish Meuniere at SA Cafe and their banana pancake was probably the nicest I've had in Bali (if you like a nice fluffy pancake, not the usual thin undercooked crepe). Mexican burger also nice but, again, needed a good slather of kecup asli. Nice spaghetti marinara at Il Cielo (SA Cafe's was not good - more like tomato noodle soup) and their pannacotta very good. I thought their coffee was really excellent - but maybe that was to do with the previous 9 days of hotel room Nescafe 3 -in-1?! For a take-away, we tried a Thai Garlic Chicken pizza and some spicy chicken wings from Papa Ron's - both delicious! The surprise package for us was Impala - the place was deserted.. usually a bad sign...but we gave it a try and were pleasantly surprised. Tandoori Snapper, garlic roti and a blueberry smoothie... drool-worthy. Didn't get around to trying the Pantai - looked nice (I looove the fairy lights) but will put that one on the gastronomic to-do list...
These were the best ... the worst meal was at our hotel, Bali Segara. Their cap cay was truly awful - they also hold the record for most disgusting club sandwich. Shame, because I love everything else about the place. They are under new management and I was hoping for a menu re-vamp, but no luck in that regard.
Also, some unpleasantness when I checked out - was asked to pay for water from the mini-bar which I did not use, then housekeeping claimed a towel was missing. This mysteriously reappeared on the towel rack when my partner asked the manager to accompany him to the room to look for the towel. Hmmm.
Anyway - hope the above is useful for those staying in the area.
