Poppies 1, it must be admitted, is a tad narrow for a one way street and it's two way so I am always afraid that I'll sooner or later be squashed, squished or mangled in some horrible way but the reality this morning was one that I had never visualised, even in my wildest dreams.

I was happily strolling along pretty much minding my own business and humming in my head the plinkity plonkity music always playing here and there when I spied the ice truck coming. Ok so I moved over and began to walk crabwise but then it happenned, the motorbike with the surfboard rack decided to pass the ice man. Those surf board racks are scary you know so I jumped back into a shop....nice shiny white tiles, just washed....my best pink croc thongs.... down I went like a sack of the proverbial.

I wish, in retrospect, that I hadn't grabbed the display to try and save myself although it did slow my descent a little so that I ended up sitting on the top step pretty much undamaged. Unfortunately the string then gave way and a shower of, well, of, shall we say, umm ornamental wooden bottle openers cascaded into may lap and all around me on the floor.

Some Kiwi ladies who were probably close to a humiliating knicker wetting fit of laughter took a photo. Can you believe that? Then they proceeded to buy a couple which placated the stall owner. As for me, well I was thanking God that in her infinite wisdom she always makes me wear good, black knickers.

Thanks also to the two Swedish back packers who with straight faces helped me up. You've got to love the Scandanavians haven't you?

The moral of this story is, look out when for the iceman cometh and like your Mummy always told you wear good undies.
