Thank God someone knows what they are talking about. It is not an Islamic practice purely cultural. I am a female married to an Indonesian Muslim. There religion is very important to them. We had a wonderful wedding with three ceromonies. Mappachi (sorry for spelling) the wedding ceromony and then the "reception". Nothing like I have ever seen.
My father in law says it is up to each individual person but when we visit he does his ceromonies for us coming and leaving.
