I think the best support of kids in general is with Helen Flavel foundation. Helen has done some amazing work since she too saw problems with 'charities' so worked her own way to help kids and families with health, education, shelter and welfare.
For orphanages go with the charities in the article.
It is probably better to just bring stuff and give them to your favourite hotel worker as they will find a way of using everything you give to them either for themselves their families or a friend of mine used to take stuff to the unmarried womens place (baby stuff) I never went there ..she asked if she could take some extra stuff we had given her for her own family.
She also visits the bale where old people are left and gives them clothing and blankets.This is a Balinese person, not a westerner.
