Ubud is Bali.
The tourist south is Indonesia!
It all depends on what you want? Ubud is village oriented, virtually all local staff in hotels and restaurants are kids from the local villages, maybe not as professional or street-wise as those down south but genuine and honest, with smiles that are real!
Of course there is street congestion at times as Ubud has kept to Bali tradition 100%, many ceremonies [over 20,000 came to Ubud to see the recent Royal Cremation] but this is what Bali is all about, local culture not drunken foreigners drinking their Bintangs all day!
Of course day trippers to Ubud never give themselves a chance to explore it. It is a place to stay in, rather than just to visit.
