you are after sea pearl as opposed to fresh water pearl. The beach sellers mostly deal in fresh water pearls. Sea pearls are much more expensive, and therefore represent a much larger outlay for beach sellers (and risk they won't sell).

Be careful and know what you are buying, I've seen some pretty dodgy sea pearls in Bali - large glass ball in the centre to make it heavy, with very thin nacre.
