We are the same age as you and have always stayed in Legian. You have Kuta one way and Seminyak the other. We stay at Melasti Beach Resort but have also stayed at Jayakarta. However, prefer MBR.
Great restaurants within walking distance and the beach is right at your door step. For exercise after brekky, we walk thru the back streets to get to Kuta, then either taxi it (if we have had a big shopping day or along the beach to talk with the locals. We find that we see so much more by going thru the back streets. No security probs with doing this either.
